I have to admit, I’m a bit of a Mac person. I haven’t always been though. For the majority of my life I was a PC user and still am to an extent. I used a PC desktop all during college, and it was only when I decided to get a laptop did I switch over to Macs. I admit, at first I was a bit wary, having very little contact with one before. There are so many different programs and features that you just don’t find on a PC. Once I'd done my research, I purchased a MacBook and began playing around with it, only then did I realize what an utterly great laptop it really is.
One of the things that is so impressive about Macs is the user interface and graphics. I remember the first time I saw the “genie” graphic – I was quite impressed! I know it doesn’t lend itself to the overall ability of the computer, but there’s something really satisfying about having those little aesthetic touches. PCs are kind of bare-boned, with minimal graphics and options for the home screen whereas Macs have a beautiful interface, and even give you the option of hiding the program toolbar if you prefer a clean, minimalist homepage.
Macs have another really cool feature – widgets. These little guys are customizable, and range from current weather updates to language translators to flight status updates. Widgets pop up on the screen at the touch of a button, and instantly you can use any of the small programs you need. Some of the widgets I find particularly useful are the sticky notes and world clocks (you can set up as many as you need).
I’m sure by now you’ve heard the arguments for why Macs run better and have superior programs and technology, but you also shouldn’t discredit actual graphics and overall aesthetic value. These may seem trivial, but it’s in the small details that people derive pleasure.
