The whispering and speculation has begun surrounding Apple's next model of its venerable MacBook Pro lineup, and the highest-rated laptop on the planet is projected to get quite the overhaul.
[ad#ad-2]
The biggest rumor that has been circulating is that Apple is spending a lot of time and money redesigning their MacBook Pro case. The current MacBook Pro case is somewhat iconic, with the brushed aluminum exterior and nothing marring the case except the glowing white Apple logo, so Apple is reportedly working hard to ensure that the new case is a winner. Millions of MacBook Pros will end up with the new case design once it's launched, and Apple values their reputation very highly when it comes to aesthetic and visual appeal. Expect whatever new designs that come up will be carefully researched and focus tested - which means they will leak out at some point.
It's highly possible that the next generation of MacBook Pros will come with touchscreens, similar to those found in Apple's iPad and iPhone, although it's not likely they will share the same functionality. Many laptop computers are shipping with touchscreens, so this rumor isn't completely unfounded. Apple has tended to invest heavily in its glass trackpads for the MacBook Pro line, and with their customers used to using these it may end up difficult to change things. However, this rumor has persisted and shouldn't be discounted.
Rumours are persisting that Apple is strongly considering getting rid of the DVD drive from its MacBook Pro line after the success it has had with the MacBook Air lineup. Fewer and fewer consumers are bothering with DVDs as a storage medium, and now that Apple has the app store for its MacBook and iMac machines, many users won't be using DVDs to install software, either. Movies are streamed or downloaded for the most part, which eliminates that use as well. Removing the DVD drive from the MacBook Pro would save Apple a ton of space, which can be filled with additional battery cells or other miscellaneous uses.
Apple may also be considering going with solid state drives instead of traditional hard drives in its new MacBook Pros. This is another innovation borrowed from the MacBook Air lineup, but could end up costing Apple - and therefore its customers - quite a bit more to implement. SSDs are currently much more expensive than regular hard drives, which leads one to believe that this rumor might not come to fruition just yet.
Finally, expect to see faster processor technology in the next MacBook Pros. Intel is constantly innovating its processor lines to reduce power consumption and increase speed, and these will inevitably find their way into the next model of Apple's premiere line of laptop computers.
Although Apple has been tight-lipped about its next MacBook Pros, expect to see more rumours and leaks coming as we get closer to 2012 and the projected launch. Whatever they end up doing, you can be sure that the MacBook Pro will still be one of the hottest selling computers on the planet, and likely as adored by the legions of Apple fans as the current MacBooks are.
