How to Replace Macbook Optical Drives? Used Logicboard – In Stock – Many On Offer

Follow these steps to remove the Logic Board from your Macbook.

  • Use a coin to rotate the screw that locks the battery cover, 90 degrees clockwise
  • Remove the battery out of your computer.
  • Remove the three Phillips screws that are spaced evenly along the battery compartment rear wall. Those screws are captive on the metal memory cover.
  • To remove the L-shaped memory cover: slowly slide it to the right, and then lift it out of your computer.
  • Remove these 3 screws:
    • Two 14.5 mm Phillips.
    • One 11 mm Phillips located in the middle of the Macbook's case.

If the above screws stick in the case, try to use a magnetized screwdriver to draw those screws out. The shortest screw is in the middle.

  • Remove these 3 screws from the battery compartment rear wall:
    • One 4 mm Phillips located on the right side.
    • Two 3 mm Phillips.

Later if you want to reinstall these screws, it may be practical to gently push down on the lower part of the case to align the screw holes.

  • Remove a couple of Phillips screws from both side of the battery compartment right wall (not those nearest to the battery connectors).
  • Remove the four Phillips screws from the battery compartment front wall. When you work from the left, you should remove the second, fourth, seventh and ninth screw.
  • Remove these 4 screws located on the back of your computer:
    • Two 10.5 mm Phillips screws toward the center.
    • Two 7 mm Philips screws on the far sides.
  • Remove a couple of Phillips screws located on the optical side of your computer. It isn't necessary to remove identical screws located on the other side of your computer. There's a keyboard and track pad ribbon connecting the upper case with the logic board, so you shouldn't pull the upper case off too hard.
  • Pry up the upper case; you need to start near the screen and working around slowly to the front of your computer.
  • Get a spudger to slowly pry up the orange keyboard and track pad cable from the connector, while holding the upper case up.
  • Remove the MagSafe board cable from your logic board.

  • Remove the left I/O frame away from your computer. Pay extra attention to those thin metal EMI fingers, sometimes they may catch when you remove the left I/O frame.
  • Look for a foil tape between the optical drive and the fan, and then peel it up.
  • Using a spudger, gently move the black speaker cables and the gray display data to the right. You'll find the silver screw that secures the fan housing with the lower case.
  • Remove an orange optical drive ribbon cable that is connected with logic board.
  • Look for a small black rubber cover located on the right of the heat sink and then peel it up.
  • Remove these 6 screws:

  • One 6 mm Phillips screws located on the left side of the fan.
  • One 8 mm Phillips screws from the right side.
    • One 3 mm Phillips screws located on the right side of the fan.
  • Hold the fan with one hand and the heatsink with your other hand, then lift the fan and heatsink assembly out of your computer. The fan is connected to the heatsink only with just a strip of black tape, so make sure to remove both parts as a single unit. If you have to mount the heatsink back into your Macbook, make sure you replace the old thermal compound layer.
  • Remove the two antenna cables from the black inverter cable and the Airport card from the logic board.
  • Remove these 2 screws located on the Airport card:
    • One 3 mm Phillips screws from the left side.
  • Hold the Airport card at the top and slide it slowly toward the screen and away from the computer.
  • Using a spudger to remove the left speaker connector located on the logic board.
  • Remove the left speaker from your computer
