Replacement 45 Watt Power Adapter for Macbook Air, MB283LL/A Differences and Similarities between Macbook Models

Follow these steps to remove the display from your Macbook.

• Use a coin to rotate the screw that locks the battery cover, 90 degrees clockwise
• Remove the battery out of your computer.
• Remove the three Phillips screws that are spaced evenly along the battery compartment rear wall. Those screws are captive on the metal memory cover.
• To remove the L-shaped memory cover: slowly slide it to the right, and then lift it out of your computer.
• Remove these 3 screws:
o Two 14.5 mm Phillips.
o One 11 mm Phillips located in the middle of the Macbook's case.

If the above screws stick in the case, try to use a magnetized screwdriver to draw those screws out. The shortest screw is in the middle.
• Remove these 3 screws from the battery compartment rear wall:
o One 4 mm Phillips located on the right side.
o Two 3 mm Phillips.

Later if you want to reinstall these screws, it may be practical to gently push down on the lower part of the case to align the screw holes.
• Remove a couple of Phillips screws from both side of the battery compartment right wall (not those nearest to the battery connectors).
• Remove the four Phillips screws from the battery compartment front wall. When you work from the left, you should remove the second, fourth, seventh and ninth screw.
• Remove these 4 screws located on the back of your computer:
o Two 10.5 mm Phillips screws toward the center.
o Two 7 mm Philips screws on the far sides.
• Remove a couple of Phillips screws located on the optical side of your computer. It isn't necessary to remove identical screws located on the other side of your computer. There's a keyboard and track pad ribbon connecting the upper case with the logic board, so you shouldn't pull the upper case off too hard.
• Pry up the upper case; you need to start near the screen and working around slowly to the front of your computer.
• Get a spudger to slowly pry up the orange keyboard and track pad cable from the connector, while holding the upper case up.
• Hold the white plastic tab connected to the hard drive and then pull it to the left; it will remove the hard drive from your computer.

• Remove a couple of Phillips screws located on the front edge of your optical drive.
• Remove the orange ribbon cable of optical drive that is connected logic board.
• Remove the newly-revealed data cable for display. If you cannot find pull-tab located on the top of the connector, perhaps it will be practical to use a spudger to remove the connector.
• Again remove the hard drive cable that is revealed after you remove data cable for display.
• Peel up the foil tape located between the optical drive and the fan.
• Remove the Phillips screw that secures the display data cable with the metal framework.
• Remove the display data cable that is located along the optical drive edge and you will find a silver Phillips screw.
• Take out the Phillips screw that secures the optical drive. In some Macbook models Bluetooth cable may cover the screw; gently push it aside before you remove the screw.
• Remove the Bluetooth antenna board located on the right side of your optical drive.
• Lift the hard drive cable located along the front of your optical drive.
• Grasp the front edge of your optical drive and slowly slide it up to remove it out from computer.
• Remove these 3 screws:
o One 6 mm Phillips, it's threaded through a hole inside a plastic finger on top of the subwoofer.
o Two 3 mm Phillips close to the right speaker.

You should be careful not to tighten the screw that's located above the subwoofer too hard as the plastic cracks easily.
• Remove the right speaker from its housing and put it to the side.
• Use a spudger, to carefully lift the white plastic slot and then slide the c-channel (made from metal) to the right and away from the screen.
• Using a spudger, gently disconnect the microphone cable that is connected to the logic board. You should work from side to side; steadily wiggle the connector out of the socket.
• Pick up the black cable (for right speaker) with your right hand, and with your left hand deroute the silver cable (for microphone) from a silver metal clip that is located above the RAM slot.
• Deroute the silver cable (for microphone) and gray data cable (for display) from the tabs, you should find them in the bottom of the subwoofer.
• Remove a Phillips screw that secures the ground loop of the display data cable, you will find it above the Bluetooth board.
• Remove the two antenna cables from the black inverter cable and the Airport card from the logic board.

• Remove these two screws located on the right hinge mount:
o One 10 mm Phillips located on the right side of the hinge mount.
o One 6 mm Phillips located on the left side of the hinge mount.
• Slowly lift the right hinge mount out of your computer.
• Hold the display with your right hand while you remove the screws located on the left hinge mount with your left hand.

o One smaller 6 mm Phillips screws located on the right side.
• Slowly lift the left hinge mount away from your computer.
• Hold the display assembly on both side, and lift it up away from your computer.
